Student Council 31st March 2009
1a.Ground rules were reinforced
1b.Two new members Joe Akroyd and Jack Westby were introduced to the student council.
2. 4 of the student council went to a student conference where we pick up some tips.
We made a presentation and sat through presentations
(Made notes from the power point presentation) This helped us to think about what was good and bad in our school and also made us think about how we could improve the school.
3. Connexions
Connexions with the help of young people and there own youth council/ panel they also use youth champions. Both the youth council and youth champions have an important part to play in the making of this website as they decide on the layout and design of the website. Also at the end of each month we have to send an answer of a question about the website and we also feedback any information and comments of people about the website which are constructive criticisms as without these an improvement can not be made to the website. Without comments about the website we can not make it more user friendly but with your comments if you feel it is not user friendly enough, we can make an improvement on it and also remember it is there for your use.
The website address detail can go onto the website for other students to see
4. Forum and It's Learning
Simon Throop, the communications officer reminded the council to use It's Learning and the forum. And also answered any questions other members have, like who can moderate. He replied that he is on there everyday. The council rose up the issue of rules and procedures which would have to be made and try out within members.
5. Display Board
The students reported that they have not been able to finish the display the notice board in one lesson. We need to have access to the key to the display board. We need to display on the bard what we have achieve and what are we going to achieve.
6. Website update
The students have got a template and Ross is in the process of making it. People made suggestions about the colour.
7. Budget
The budget could be used on Prom.
The main things that we thought about when we were at the conference were prom and toilets.
The school are thinking about improving the toilets.
Thinking about the area of where the toilets are.
Emma made a point that we should have interactive devices where we spend the money for example if the pupil is scared of asking the teacher in class they could tell the teacher in confidential. The teacher could book the devices as they book there devices using the laptops.
Improve the environment e.g. improve the pond area. We need to spend the money on something that would benefit the whole college. We have 2000 pounds to spend. Most teachers do not use the interactive whiteboard so spending more money on the interactive whiteboard is not useful. We need to make decisions as a council to save more time and to get the work done due to the reason that we do not have much time.
8. Red Nose Day
All the 150 red nose day noses were sold, they are still collected the raffle money. Some students are asking to do a variety show. Student could show off the skills, previously the activity took two terms. We could use this idea to have a competition or keep consents etc. The student council need to present ideas in front of department.
9. Prom
-They have a venue from the prom and also there is a meeting that is going to be hold with Chris Parkinson.
10. Yearbooks
-Yearbooks can be going ahead however the problems will be the timescale.
-Tutor groups can be asked to complete best moments at Bosworth etc.
-Reprographics can be asked to give publish the yearbook.
